Get to Know
Dr. Stephanie Simmons
Dr. Simmons always knew she wanted to do something in the medical field, as she liked biological sciences and helping people feel better. When she was an undergraduate, she narrowed her career path to dentistry because she liked the immediate gratification of being able to see a problem (broken tooth, large cavity, etc.) and fix it in a single appointment. Today, she loves many more things about her job, like being able to get to know her patients on a personal level by seeing them consistently over the years, especially families as she watches their children grow up. She also loves being able to help a patient gain more confidence and no longer have to be scared or uncomfortable at their dental appointments.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Simmons graduated from Auburn University before going on to earn her DMD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Her first year out of dental school, she worked as an associate dentist for a prosthodontist in Montgomery. She then practiced at Sarrell Dental Center and Lighthouse Children's Dentistry for another year while she was planning/preparing the startup of TigerTown Family Dentistry.
After she opened the doors to our practice in September 2012, Dr. Simmons continued part-time with Lighthouse Children's Dentistry and their amazing pediatric dentist, Dr. Keri Miller, for 10 years. She eventually took several courses on Botox administration in 2014 and has been providing that additional service ever since. She still completes advanced training every year through her membership in the Alabama Dental Association and Spear Education.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Originally from Dothan, Dr. Simmons is a devoted dog mom to her Bernedoodle named Ray, who basically thinks he’s human. An avid traveler, she has an annual tradition where she spends every week of Christmas somewhere international. She alternates cold and warm destinations, and she loves learning about the cultures and customs of how the different areas celebrate the holiday season. So far, she has been on an African Safari, chased the Northern Lights and hiked glaciers in Iceland, enjoyed the traditional Christmas Markets in Quebec City, and soaked up the sunshine in places like Costa Rica, St. Lucia, and St. Thomas.
